Privacy Policy: Google Scholar Profile Summary
Google Scholar Profile Summary ("the extension") adds a summary panel to Google Scholar author profile pages.
What data the extension handles
The extension reads the publication list and citation chart of the Google Scholar profile page you are viewing, and calculates metrics (such as paper counts, citation counts and h-index) from them. This information is already public on that page.
What data the extension collects
By default, none. The extension does not collect, store or log personal data or browsing history, has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and does not use cookies or any browser storage of its own. It never sends anything to the developer.
Optional retraction check
If you click "Check retractions", the extension sends, for each paper in the profile you are viewing, the paper's title and the first author's surname to Crossref (api.crossref.org), a public scholarly-metadata service, to find retraction notices. The requests also carry the developer's contact email address, as Crossref asks of its users. Nothing is sent to Crossref unless you click the button. The extension does not keep Crossref's answers after you leave the page, apart from the JSON file if you choose to download it. Crossref's own privacy policy applies to the requests it receives.
Where processing happens
All calculations happen locally in your browser. Apart from the optional retraction check above, the only requests the extension makes are to Google Scholar itself, the site you are already visiting, to read the next pages of a long publication list. It sends nothing to the developer.
Files you create
If you click "Download JSON", the extension saves the summary and the paper list of that profile, and the retraction results if you ran the check, as a file on your computer. The file is created in your browser and is not uploaded anywhere.
Third parties
The extension shares data with Crossref only when you click "Check retractions", as described above. It shares nothing with any other third party. Google Scholar is operated by Google and is subject to Google's own privacy policy.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
